Scaly Breasted Lorikeet

An early morning walk along Town Beach Port Macquarie found a small flock of Scaly Breasted Lorikeets. Their close relatives, Rainbow Lorikeets are common around Sydney, but I haven't seen these guys since I was a thirteen year old. I bought a pair from a pet shop in Hornsby NSW, carried them home in a shoebox and housed them in a backyard aviary that I had laboriously built out of tree saplings that I had felled and dragged home from the bush surrounding my house in Thornleigh NSW.

And here they were...taking me for a trip down memory lane.

Here's a link for the keen birdwatcher SCALY BREASTED LORIKEET

When I turned 180 degrees I looked at Town Beach.
