An Inspiring Trip To Mudgee

Image
The first thing I noticed, on a recent drive out to Mudgee, was the amazing sepia colours of the landscape after passing through Lithgow. The winter grass was a distinct light straw colour in the foreground, turning to a darker brown in the distance. I promised myself I would get out the watercolours when I got home from this two day trip. Mudgee has continued to evolve into a contemporary town, while still retaining the look of it's past. This is mainly due to an influx of young families over the past ten or so years, and it's reputation as a successful wine region. I'm looking forward to an interesting and inspiring couple of days here. _____   The Mudgee Homestead Guesthouse        _____ The Mudgee Homestead Guesthouse sits comfortably on a hillside just steep enough to afford sweeping views of the Mudgee Landscape. It is Australian Federation Style, and painted in federation colours of deep cream and dark leaf green. A wide verandah surrounds the entire homestead

Ricky Martin to Emma Pask: 'I am recording a Brazilian album and I want you to be part of it'

Image
Emma Pask is an Australian jazz vocalist. She is best known for her work with big bands and her continuing collaboration with noted Australian virtuoso James Morrison. She competed on the Second Season of The Voice Australia but was eliminated in the Showdown rounds. In April 2013, Emma auditioned for Season 2 of The Voice (Australia) and was placed on Joel Madden's team as he was the only coach to turn his chair. She was defeated by Lyric McFarland in the Battle Rounds but was given a second chance when Ricky Martin chose to use his only save on her, now making her a member of his team. While she was unsuccessful during the Showdown rounds, Ricky requested that she join him in recording a Brazilian album he is currently working on after her performance of Brazilian hit song 'Mas que Nada'. "I'm going to throw a bomb here... I am recording a Brazilian album and I want you to be part of it" says Grammy-award winner Ricky Martin after Emma Pask

The Delltones. "Keep on raging to stop the ageing".

Image
Australia knew that it loved the Delltones in 1958, when the four young lifesavers, Noel Weiderberg, Brian Perkins, Warren Lucas and Ian 'Peewee' Wilson , appeared gawky, gangly and hopeful at the Bronte Surf Club, then in Australian stadium 'Big Shows' with mentor Johnny O'Keefe, on pioneering radio show Rockville Junction and television shows Six O'Clock Rock and Bandstand, and finally on record with their debut top twenty hit, the Crows' doo wop standard Gee.  The Delltones were part of a burgeoning rock 'n' roll environment which largely invented itself; part of a community which drew guitar patterns on Fantales boxes in darkened cinemas, ran sprawling suburban dances with pug nosed boxers as bouncers, blew international touring acts off stage with raw, blustery energy, and gleefully upset the social order of a young and conservative country. Since the sixties, the Delltones have bee entertaining Australian audiences. Ian

Let's go birdwatching! Three 'hard to find' birds of the undergrowth.

Image
In this video, there's glimpses of three of our little birds that I've labelled for you on the video.  White Throated Gerygone, White Browed Scrub Wren and Grey Fantail. You'll also get a look at a few of the wildflowers that bloom this time of the year.  The white-browed scrubwren   is found in coastal areas of Australia. It is insectivorous and inhabits undergrowth, from which it rarely ventures, though can be found close to urban areas. It is 11–14 cm (5–6 in) long and predominantly brown in colour with prominent white brows and pale eyes, White Throated Gerygones are insectivores which obtain most of  their food by gleaning and snatching in the foliage of trees and bushes. They are small, mostly weighing an average of 6–7 g, and  Their songs are described as "simple but delightful", many descending in pitch, and some species are excellent mimics. The Grey Fantail is almost never still. It flits from perch to perch, sometimes on the ground but mostly on th

INXS. The Very Best Album of 2014.

Image
2014 was a great year for the Australian Music Legends INXS . A renewed interest in the band followed success of the mini series Never Tear Us Apart and the GQ Legends of The Year Award. And now it seems the saying 'golden oldies' rings true for rock band INXS.  Their greatest hits compilation, The Very Best, was named the most popular album of the year by ARIA, The Australian Record Industry Association. The band from left; Andrew Fariss, Kirk Pengilly, Tim Fariss and Jon Fariss (Gary Beers absent) were presented with plaques at Universal Music Headquarters in Sydney in November to mark quadruple platinum sales of INXS-The Very Best. Sales for the 2011 released record spiked in February this year, after the mini-series INXS: Never Tear Us Apart aired on the Seven Network. The group also had six other albums and nine singles enter back into the charts, decades after they were first released.
